Colosseum in Rome - Engraved inscription about Marius Basilius

D. M. V. Basilius`s inscription: This is one of two exact copies at the Collosseum in Rome, Italy. This copy was found on the 23 of August 1813. Note the mistake SVMTV, the correct Latin word is SVMPTV. The inscription was engraved by re-using an architectural element.

ORDINARIVS ARENAM ET
PODIVM QVAE ABOMI
NANDI TERRAEMO
TVS RVINA PROS

D.M.V. Basilius was consul (of Western imperium) in 484 AD. Others Basilius consuls were:
  • Flavius Caecina Decius Basilius in 463 AD (Western Imperium); 
  • Flavius Caecina Decius Maximus Basilius (junior) in 480 AD (Western imperium); 
  • and Flavius Anicius Faustus Albinus Basilius, last consul of Eastern Imperium in 541 AD.
